Optum Serve Insurance Coverage for Mental Health Care

Getting help for your mental health should feel encouraging—not overwhelming. If you have Optum Serve coverage, understanding your benefits can make it easier to take that first step with confidence.

At the North Carolina Institute of Advanced NeuroHealth, we're committed to making the process as smooth as possible. Our team can help verify your Optum Serve benefits, explain your coverage, and answer your questions so you can focus on your health instead of your insurance.

Personalized Mental Health Care Starts Here

Everyone's experience with mental health is different. You may be living with depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, or another condition that affects your daily life. No matter where you're starting, we'll take the time to understand your concerns and create a treatment plan that fits your goals.

Many Optum Serve plans include behavioral health benefits that may cover a variety of the services we provide.

Mental Health Services That May Be Covered

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations

Your first visit is all about getting to know you. We'll discuss your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals so we can recommend care that's tailored to your needs.

Medication Management

Finding the right medication often takes time. We'll monitor your progress, answer your questions, and make thoughtful adjustments when needed to help you get the best results.

Telepsychiatry Appointments

Mental health care should be convenient. With secure virtual appointments, you can meet with one of our providers from home while receiving the same personalized care and attention.

TMS Therapy

If depression hasn't improved with traditional antidepressants, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) may be an option. This non-invasive treatment uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. Depending on your Optum Serve coverage and medical eligibility, TMS may be included as part of your benefits.

SPRAVATO® Therapy

Adults living with treatment-resistant depression may benefit from SPRAVATO®. This FDA-approved treatment is provided in our office under the supervision of our experienced clinical team, with careful monitoring throughout each visit.

Understanding Your Optum Serve Benefits

Insurance plans vary, so we recommend verifying your benefits before your first appointment.

Our staff can help you understand:

  • Which mental health services are covered
  • Your copay, deductible, or coinsurance
  • Whether prior authorization is required
  • Your coverage for advanced treatments like TMS or SPRAVATO®

Our goal is to make the insurance process as clear and stress-free as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

Some Optum Serve plans may require a referral or authorization before specialty mental health services begin. We'll help you determine what's needed for your specific plan.

Does Optum Serve cover TMS or SPRAVATO®?

Many plans provide coverage when medical guidelines are met, but every policy is different. Our team will verify your benefits and discuss your options before treatment begins.

How much will I pay out of pocket?

Your costs depend on your individual insurance plan. We'll review your benefits with you and explain any expected copays, deductibles, or coinsurance before your care starts.

Can your office help with insurance verification?

Yes. Our team regularly works with insurance providers and is happy to verify your Optum Serve benefits, explain your coverage, and answer your questions so you know what to expect.

Ketamine Treatment AND Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

These two treatments have risen to show their effectiveness over recent years, and literature is showing them to be among the most effective treatments for many psychiatric disorders.

Ketamine has shown itself to be particularly effective with treatment-resistant depression or TRD, post-traumatic-stress-disorder or PTSD, social anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Provided in a series of infusions, or oral or nasal spray, ketamine brings a dramatic difference the first infusion in some, but more often the change is experienced during and after the third, fourth, or fifth infusion.

TMS is a non-medication and non-invasive treatment that requires placement of a magnetic coil over the left dorsolateral prefontal cortex daily for about 20 minutes at a time. This continues daily for about 30-45 days. But you can begin to experience a real difference in 14 days. TMS can be effective in treatment resistant depression and other mood disorders.

MEET DR. RESHMI SARANGA

Leads the Ketamine Department

"I’m Dr. Reshmi Saranga, President and Owner of North Carolina Interventional Neurotherapy, and I can help you experience freedom from overwhelming emotions that make your life difficult to enjoy. My heart aches for what you go through, and I’ll show you the same compassionate and attention care I show my own family.

I’m board-certified in adult and geriatric psychiatry. After initial training in India, I completed a four year residency at University of Kansas Medical Center, then completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center.

I’ve served in the capacity of Chief Resident and on the Committee on Residency and Fellowship with the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

You need a psychiatrist who has the education, experiences, and expertise to provide the very best, up-to-date, and compassionate treatment. I chose this training path to provide the most insightful care possible for my patients. I also speak three languages to serve my patients more effectively: English, Hindi, and Telugu.

Empathetic and compassionate care are an integral part of our practice, and it’s extended not only to our family and friends but to our patients, most of all.

When I’m not seeing my patients, I’m usually at home with my husband and our children or playing tennis. I love listening to music while cooking the delicious Indian dishes my family loves. My husband, Dr. Vinay Saranga, and I savor family time, and promote the significance of family for anyone."

WHY OPEN THE NC INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED NEUROHEALTH?

As Dr. Saranga worked 10 years as a psychiatrist with his patients, he’s been distressed by the
percentage of them who did not respond to traditional antidepressants and anxiolytics. He
researched and scrutinized to find treatments that would bring relief to that segment of his
practice. His determination to find help for these patients eventually led to his opening:
